Advert!!!

October 28, 2008

I’ve had and idea for a very simple advert.

Going back to the second logo design with Paradox sitting in the background of leaves.
Taking that image and tweening it with the original logo.

Having the word paradox fade in then the leaves fall down into place (2nd logo) then dissapear leaving the one leaf as seen in the final logo. Then maybe fading to black?!

Letter

October 28, 2008

I took the orginal logo and placed it in the top left corner as the main logo. The logo is then repeated, watermarked behind the page, along with recycled signs, showing that the company is environmentally friendly.

Finally I added the green strip at the bottom with the company slogan;

PARADOX: The environmentally friendly way of using technology.

I’m alot happier with my logo now, simple seems to be the most effective.

……………continued!

October 28, 2008

Morning!!

Been playing round with my logo and thinking beyond just the logo…where its gunna be placed etc.

I’ve inverted the text and background so it can be placed on a letter head. In business companies pay for colour therefore by removing the black rectangle the text sits in alot of money is saved.

I also played around with a different idea, taking th text and placing it in a leafy background.

Now to experiment with actual placements: letter, poster, packaging etc.

2ND ONE DAY PROJECT!!!! PARADOX!!!

October 28, 2008

It’s 1.30 in the morning and I still have no idea weither I’m on the right track.

We were set a brief today to create a visual motif to be used in a range of different designs, for example: a logo, letterhead, poster, advert etc.

It is to be created for a charity PARADOX raising awareness of environmentally-friendly ways of using technology.
The target audience is both men and women ages 15-24.

Paradox:  is a true statement or group of statements that leads to a contradiction or a situation which defies intuition; or, inversely, it can be an apparent contradiction that actually expresses a non-dual truth.

http://www.paradoxes.co.uk/

My first thoughts…there were little, the whole thing just went straight over my head, a simple concept yet so hard to grasp any ideas.

Initially I was thinking, advance in technology has meant that one can do everything on your computer therefore the world is more environmentally-friendly as less people need to travel therefore polluting the world.

I then moved on to think about the idea of energy saving with wind turbines, solar panals etc. the use of these in our everyday life for electricity, heating, even running a car.

I’ve now begun to think about the campaign of trying to “save the world” by simple things like, making sure you turn the light out in a room when your not in it, limiting water useage, putting a jumper on rather than turning up the heating. Does this count as ways of using technology though?!

In the midst of all this random brainstorming…sorry mind mapping!!! I did a search on different logo’s already out there.

Logo's - Famous Brands

Famous Brand Logo’s

Above are a selection of famous brand logo’s.

I also looked on a number of sites to find some inspiration from existing logo’s:

Looking at many logo’s it’s clear that the simpler the better, take Nike for example just a simple tick yet everyone knows what it means. Many logo’s just contain the word in a specific font, now connected to the company. You can’t tell me you wouldn’t recognise the coca-cola writing font?!

At this ridiculous time in the morning i asked all my online contacts what logo they first thought of, these were the responses I got:

Audi
Burger King
Coca-Cola
Tron
MacDonalds
Apple
Nike
Skandia
WinLOGO
Google

From this I’ve realised I know a bunch of weird people fixated on computers, games, sailing, programming, cars and fast food.

From the top 15 logos ranked on the link below only 2 of the logo’s were mentioned. Coca-Cola and Apple. And only Coca-Cola mentioned in the top 6 in the link above.

This just shows how many distiguishable logo’s there are around in society today, logo’s are everywhere, BU (Bournemouth University) for example.

Just looking in my task bar on the computer as i write this I can see a number of logo’s: AVG, uTorrents, Windows Messenger, Skype, Logitech, Google Talk, iTunes.

FACT: when you type logo into google it suggest “nike logo” as a related search!! This shows how popular and well known the Nike logo is.
I will admit the first logo I thought of was Nike, the first research I did was to try find the history of the Nike logo to see if it had changed over the years. The design is very simple…just a simple tick, used in a variety of colours.

Definitly time to sleep now…!!!

I’ve come up with one logo so far:

I went for a simple design using basic but effective colours. Black and white then using the green leaf to add the aspect of environmentally-friendly. I used a soft curvey font (arial), it is a well known common font, therefore it doesn’t distract the viewer from the overall image.

The logo is effective, but maybe too simple?!

If I choose to go ahead with this design, what’s the next step?

Poster, letterhead, advert?!

This is Nikki…..out!!!!

One Day Project

October 14, 2008

I just started our first one day project, at some rediculous time in the morning….thinking maybe the sailing social wasn’t such a good idea!! :-S

Brief

Illutstrate from one or more of the following words using nature and technology as the overaching theme throughout.

  • Depth
  • Revolution
  • Encounter
  • Journey
  • Element.

I have decided to follow on my idea of planes orginating from birds, both using the same basic design.
By creating an image with both plane and bird I can show this. Fitting into the category journey, as both planes and birds use flight to move, travel, journey anywhere.

Update

October 13, 2008

After a long relaxing weekend, straight back to work with a whopper 4 hours of lectures back to back. It was hard to stay focused but all lectures were very interesting and I’ve taken alot away from them.

In the keynote lecture we were talking about visualities: technologies and cultural perception. We discussed how with media and new technologies we no longer have to travel the world to see it, with programs such as skype and instant messenger and technologies such as satelittes and webcams it is possible to contact anyone/see anything around the world instantly from the comfort of your own home.

These new media’s will never replace the real life versions…not in this time anyway. You loose some of the senses, eg smell and touch. A camera can never capture an exact replica of the view, after all we have two eyes and a camera only has one.

Among other things we looked at a range of different images, each representing various contrasting categories. Looking at these images gave me some new ideas for my project.

  • people made in factories in the same way humans vs robots.
  • planes vs bird – nature and technology sharing the same purpose…flight.
  • abstract image with no focal point.

————————————————————————————-

In our PDP lecture we were discussing different types of people we took a short test to determine what type of person we were; aimiable, expressive, analytical or a driver. I fell under aimiable, In small groups we brainstormed the pros and cons of being this particular person.

Pros
Your a good listener
Tend to have lots of friends
Always thinks of others

Cons
People take advantage of your generocity and caring personality so you ten to get walked over.
Spend so much time making sure everyone else is happy that you might not be yourself.

From my own experiences I believe all to be true for me, obviously now knowing my weaknesses I can become learn from them and become stronger.

————————————————————————————-

Next we had production principle lecture and were set our first one day project. :-D
We looked at different elements and principle of desgin, analysing a range of different images, disscussing what we liked and what we disliked in each, and which was most effective for its purpose. This was really useful as it gave me more of an idea to what I should be looking to archieve and how to do it, in future and current projects.
