My first blog!!!
October 8, 2008My names Nikki Curwen I’ve just started my course, Interactive Media Production, at Bournemouth University. I will be using this blog to record all my thoughts throughout my time at uni.
We’ve just been set our first project, titled ‘Images,’ on the topic of nature and technology. We are to create 5 images using photoshop and display them on a website, each image should contain text as part of the image. Throughout the project i will be recording my ideas and thoughts in blogs and contained in a sketch book.
With little knowledge in photoshop, im learning lots everyday. Today’s workshop taught me loads of which I’ve been practising with this evening to increase my confidence and experience. In our practise seminar today we played photoshop tennis which really tested my photoshop skills and what I’d learnt earlier in the day. It made me realise just how much there is still to learn, yet how rewarding it feels when you do.
On the subject of our project I’ve had a few ideas already. I’ve been debating in my head the different angles you can look at the title.
Nature and Technology, weither as seperate titles or conflicting e.g. Nature vs. Technology.
My intial idea’s were images of nature with technology portrayed within them, for example, a close up of a flower then on the petal text displayed, say a meaningfull poem or phrase. In the same way I also imagined a photo of a forest then in each tree trunk a monitor displaying an image of a digital/contrasting version of the original photo.
Another idea I had was to take a picture of a fatory eg. computer factory and then photoshop in vines crawling all over the machines, nature taking over technology.
After playing photoshop tennis I came up with the idea of doing the same thing for one of my images alternating between adding a nature image to a technology image. Reflecting on the idea of Nature vs Technology.
Tasks:
- To read into the topic and generate more ideas. Books, Internet, journals, magazines etc.
- I found that alot of what was said in the keynote speach went straight over my head, alot of the big words didnt mean anything ot me. Need to read through my notes and pick apart and make sense of everything said and connect it into themes and ideas for my project. The lecture was very interesting, it made me realise there are many more views to every image/icon than you dare imagine, and everyone has different perspectives.
