2ND ONE DAY PROJECT!!!! PARADOX!!!
October 28, 2008It’s 1.30 in the morning and I still have no idea weither I’m on the right track.
We were set a brief today to create a visual motif to be used in a range of different designs, for example: a logo, letterhead, poster, advert etc.
It is to be created for a charity PARADOX raising awareness of environmentally-friendly ways of using technology.
The target audience is both men and women ages 15-24.
Paradox: is a true statement or group of statements that leads to a contradiction or a situation which defies intuition; or, inversely, it can be an apparent contradiction that actually expresses a non-dual truth.
My first thoughts…there were little, the whole thing just went straight over my head, a simple concept yet so hard to grasp any ideas.
Initially I was thinking, advance in technology has meant that one can do everything on your computer therefore the world is more environmentally-friendly as less people need to travel therefore polluting the world.
I then moved on to think about the idea of energy saving with wind turbines, solar panals etc. the use of these in our everyday life for electricity, heating, even running a car.
I’ve now begun to think about the campaign of trying to “save the world” by simple things like, making sure you turn the light out in a room when your not in it, limiting water useage, putting a jumper on rather than turning up the heating. Does this count as ways of using technology though?!
In the midst of all this random brainstorming…sorry mind mapping!!! I did a search on different logo’s already out there.
Above are a selection of famous brand logo’s.
I also looked on a number of sites to find some inspiration from existing logo’s:

Looking at many logo’s it’s clear that the simpler the better, take Nike for example just a simple tick yet everyone knows what it means. Many logo’s just contain the word in a specific font, now connected to the company. You can’t tell me you wouldn’t recognise the coca-cola writing font?!
At this ridiculous time in the morning i asked all my online contacts what logo they first thought of, these were the responses I got:
Audi
Burger King
Coca-Cola
Tron
MacDonalds
Apple
Nike
Skandia
WinLOGO
Google
From this I’ve realised I know a bunch of weird people fixated on computers, games, sailing, programming, cars and fast food.
From the top 15 logos ranked on the link below only 2 of the logo’s were mentioned. Coca-Cola and Apple. And only Coca-Cola mentioned in the top 6 in the link above.

This just shows how many distiguishable logo’s there are around in society today, logo’s are everywhere, BU (Bournemouth University) for example.
Just looking in my task bar on the computer as i write this I can see a number of logo’s: AVG, uTorrents, Windows Messenger, Skype, Logitech, Google Talk, iTunes.
FACT: when you type logo into google it suggest “nike logo” as a related search!! This shows how popular and well known the Nike logo is.
I will admit the first logo I thought of was Nike, the first research I did was to try find the history of the Nike logo to see if it had changed over the years. The design is very simple…just a simple tick, used in a variety of colours.
Definitly time to sleep now…!!!
I’ve come up with one logo so far:
I went for a simple design using basic but effective colours. Black and white then using the green leaf to add the aspect of environmentally-friendly. I used a soft curvey font (arial), it is a well known common font, therefore it doesn’t distract the viewer from the overall image.
The logo is effective, but maybe too simple?!
If I choose to go ahead with this design, what’s the next step?
Poster, letterhead, advert?!
This is Nikki…..out!!!!
